What qualifies me to be your Mayor?

In addition to my eight years of service as Mayor of Hobbs, I believe my business experience of running a business with 150 employees that operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day helps me to understand and support the City Manager, the Department Heads and City Staff as the City of Hobbs is a 24 hour a day 7 day a week business as well. I have a conservative approach to the city budget. The Commission, City staff and I have met or exceeded a 30 percent reserve in the budget for the eight years that I have been Mayor even though the
The state only requires an eight percent reserve. I will continue to advocate for that strategy of budget management.
Also due to the “pay-as-you-go” strategy that has been part of my philosophy as Mayor, the City has over $140,000,000 in Restricted and Un-Restricted Cash Reserves as of January 2020, a reserve amount that is more than exists for many cities twice our size. My service on numerous Boards in the community and State over the years provides me with
relationships in Santa Fe and around the state that allows me to be an advocate for our citizens, schools, social service organizations and our business community with other public officials around the state.
