ALL WE'VE ACCOMPLISHED TOGETHER
Thanks to strategic partnerships and the mayor's leadership Hobbs has seen the following successes:
•FLY HOBBS - When I was elected Mayor, I was serving on the local Airline Committee, which had been working on the development of commercial airline service for our area. As Mayor, I continued to serve on that Committee with other key partners on that project, including the County and the Economic Development Corporation of Lea County. As you know, that effort has resulted in the successes we have had working with United Airlines in connection with the FLY HOBBS program culminating in the recent addition of flights to and from Denver International. This airline service has been a significant factor in expanding our economic base and improving the quality of life of the residents of Hobbs and Lea County. This program is just one example of the partnerships that have been developed during my time as your Mayor.
• In a partnership with Hobbs Municipal Schools, we re-built the Veteran’s Memorial Baseball/Softball Complex. In addition to this upgraded complex receiving several regional awards, it has attracted thousands of players, their families and dollars to Hobbs. It also represents a significant contribution to the quality of life available to our local residents.
•The City has built five splash pads in strategic locations around the community so our residents can enjoy safe water activity close to where they live.
•Another very significant quality of life and economic development project developed by the City during my term in office are the nationally and internationally recognized Rockwind Community Links, Walking Trail, and Rockwind Grill. Those facilities are being
enjoyed by all ages of golfers and non-golfers for many different types of activities.
•The City and its partners, the JF Maddox Foundation and Hobbs Municipal Schools completely re-built City Park, creating a wonderful compliment to the newly constructed Murray School as well as providing an outstanding outdoor facility for the surrounding neighborhood and entire community of Hobbs.
•Through the strategic partnership with New Mexico Junior College, JF Maddox
Foundation, Hobbs Municipal Schools and the City, the Center of Recreational
Excellence (CORE) has proven to be the most significant and successful public-private/partnership in our state and region. It continues to provide opportunities for economic development and diversification. In addition, this amazing facility contributes to the quality of life for our residents that communities much larger than Hobbs can only dream about.
•Covenant Hospital Corporation, in a partnership with the Nor-Lea Hospital District, has purchased a significant parcel of real estate located at the southeastern corner of the Lovington Highway and Millen Drive across the Lovington Highway from the CORE. They
plan to invest $75 million to construct a new hospital and clinic at that location that will significantly expand access to medical care for our residents. This development is a major milestone in moving this project forward, a project that has been in the planning stages for the last year and is another example of a successful public/private partnership
coming together to improve our community. With support from representatives of Lea County and the City of Hobbs, I have been coordinating this initiative by the Covenant/Nor-Lea partnership with both the JF Maddox Foundation and the Lea County Economic Development Corporation in bringing this project to fruition.
•The housing incentives that I recommended during my first term and which have been supported by the Commission have been utilized to create 545 single-family homes, 993 market-rate multi-family units, and 284 affordable multi-family units and there are more
of each of these important housing projects in progress to be completed in 2020. Expanding the housing inventory in this critical time of our growing community was one of my campaign platforms when I first ran for Mayor and I am particularly proud of what has been accomplished with the support of the residents and the City Commission.
